May 16, 2011: Going Mobile

Sorry, that should say “Going TO Mobile” . . . for Mobicon! I’ll be on several panels and playing Munchkin when I’m not talking. I’ll have an early demo set of Munchkin Zombies 2 and a very early demo set (no art!) of Munchkin Axe Cop. And I may bring something to playtest, as well . . .

I haven’t been to Alabama in a very long time, so I’m really looking forward to this trip. If you’re coming, be sure to say hi!

P.S. Don’t forget about the Munchkin Webcomic Contest! We’ll have an update for you later this week.

May 9, 2011: Munchkin Zombies Designer’s Notes

When we release a game, we like to ask the designer to write down some thoughts about the creative and development process, what on earth possessed him to come up with such a crazy idea, and where he expects that crazy idea to go from here. Think of it as the “commentary track” on the game.

With Munchkin Zombies, of course, that designer was Steve . . . which means that the Designer’s Notes article is two parts “Stupid jokes we haven’t used yet,” one part “How a Munchkin game goes from a crazy idea to 168 cards in 167 easy steps,” one and one-eighth parts “Seriously, why hasn’t anyone cloned Kovalic yet?” and more than a dash of BRAAAAAIIIINNS. It’s a good read.

Some designer’s articles include suggestions on how to play well, but you already know how to play well at Munchkin. Kill the monsters and take their stuff.

May 2, 2011: May Day! May Day!

Which, it turns out, was yesterday. Guess we missed it. Here are some things YOU may have missed in the past few days:

  • We released Glow-In-The-Dark Munchkin Jumbo D6s for sale. This is a Warehouse 23 exclusive, so if you want cool glowing Munchkin dice, head over there! (Will we do other things with those designs? Oh, maaaaaybe . . .)
  • Friday evening, Andrew held a uStream video chat where he discussed Munchkin Axe Cop, new Munchkin dice, and Munchkin Zombies 2, among other things. And he answered a lot of questions. The video is archived on the MunchkinTV page if you couldn’t be there.
  • Saturday, Andrew and Angie visited Wonko’s Toys and Games for Steve Jackson Games Day. They ran playtests of Munchkin Axe Cop and Munchkin 8, and answered a lot of questions. Thanks to Eric and Denise for hosting us!
  • Yesterday, we posted the May rule for the 2011 Munchkin Silver Piece. (Psst . . . look down.)
  • Yesterday was also the start of the Munchkin Webcomic Contest. It’s running all this month.

April 25, 2011: In Austin? Near Austin? Want To Play Munchkin Axe Cop?

Of course you do!

We’re holding a public playtest of Munchkin Axe Cop on Saturday, April 30, in conjunction with Wonko’s Toys and Games in north Austin. They’re actually turning that day into a celebration of all things SJ Games, which is pretty cool of them!

Wonko’s is having a signup on their Facebook page, but the Facebook-phobic don’t have to sign up to attend; it’s just a guide to gauge likely attendance.

(Is there a chance that we will bring some unannounced stuff to show off? Oh, maaaaaaybe . . .)
